Balenciaga Reveals Winter 2023 Campaign Shot Inside Its Newly-Expanded George V Headquarters

Shot within 10-12 Avenue George V, the Demna-led label’s Paris birthplace, Balenciaga’s Winter 2023 campaign begins a new era for the Paris-based fashion house. The brand is returning to the famous address, where Cristóbal Balenciaga opened the French Couture House in 1937, and transforming the space into its Couture and creative headquarters. The sartorial imagery, shot by fashion photographer Tyler Mitchell, captures the forthcoming collection inside the historic locale as it undergoes renovation, ahead of the brand’s move.

As Balenciaga looks to leave its defamingly-controversial campaigns in its bygone days, this latest delivery sees the Brooklyn-based photographer embrace “themes of the past within fictionalized moments of the imagined future.” In several scenes, the cast — actress Isabelle Huppert and models Vittoria Ceretti, Minttu Vesala, Arthur del Beato, Nyawurh Chuol, Yura Nakano and Mathieu Simoneau — appears against construction zones with dangling wires, unpainted walls and scattered tools. It’s a visual representation of the brand’s rebuilding, offering a peek inside its homecoming.

The collection itself lauds deconstructed tailoring across a variety of signatures, including track suits, denim and leather ensembles, formalwear and casual cuts. Reinvention remains at the fore, and subversions of typical fashions are bountiful. Between wide-leg trousers, cinched-but-baggy tops, faux mink coats and bead-embroidered gowns, the collection welcomes the Monaco Bag line, the Anatomic and Biker Boot categories, the 3XL Sock Shoe, the Flex Pump, Fennec and Speed eyewear, while the imprint’s staples receive all-new treatments.
